SOURCING INSIGHTS / Nonwoven Cleaning Wipes

From Sample Approval to Consistent Wipe Orders

A good sample is a starting point, not a guarantee.

When evaluating a new supplier of nonwoven cleaning wipes, receiving a good sample is encouraging.

But I think there is another question worth asking:

Will the next production batch perform the same way?

Two wipes may have the same fibre composition, GSM and dimensions on paper, yet differences in production can still affect their performance.

Before moving from sample approval to a trial order, I would suggest agreeing on three things:

• Specifications: Which parameters need to remain consistent?

• Testing: Which properties should be checked, such as absorbency, tensile strength or colour fastness?

• Tolerance: What level of variation is acceptable?

A sample helps buyers evaluate a product.

Clear specifications and agreed quality checks help them evaluate the supply process.

For me, that distinction matters when building a long-term supplier relationship.

For procurement teams, which is more challenging: finding a suitable sample or maintaining consistency across repeat orders?
